GURKU INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OFFICIALLY RESUMES 2026 ACADEMIC SESSION

ABUJA – Gurku International School (GIS) today, Monday, 14th September 2026, officially resumed all academic and non-academic activities for the 2026 academic session with pomp, order, and renewed commitment to academic excellence.
The resumption ceremony began with a general assembly of students, pupils, academic and non-academic staff. The event was formally declared open by the School Director, Mr. Ibrahim Dauda Attagara, who also used the opportunity to introduce members of staff to the students and pupils.
Director’s Address: Discipline, Respect, and Godliness
In his opening remarks, Mr. Attagara emphasized the core values that will guide the school this term.
He charged all teachers to relate with one another “in love, unity, and honesty” in order to create a conducive learning environment.
Addressing the students and pupils, the Director urged them to “fear God and obey all school rules and regulations.”
He further stressed that every child must respect all teachers, both academic and non-academic staff.
He issued a strong warning that “any child found guilty of disobedience to any teacher or school authority will be automatically dismissed from the school.”
Orientation Meeting and Operational Briefing
Immediately after the assembly and official declaration, the School Director, members of the Board, and the entire staff held their first meeting of the term.
The meeting served as an orientation to align all departments on how the school will function in line with international standards for teaching, welfare, discipline, and administration throughout the term.
Distribution of Learning Materials
In a gesture to support parents and encourage learning, the school management distributed 12 exercise books and brand new school bags to every pupil and student who had completed their clearance and registration at the Registration Department.
Inspection of Classes and Commencement of Lessons
In demonstration of hands-on leadership, the School Director personally went round all classes to ensure that students were properly seated and learning conditions were adequate.
Following the inspection, teachers immediately commenced lessons while all other staff resumed their respective duties, marking the full take-off of academic activities for the term.
School’s Commitment
GIS reiterated its motto, “RISE TO SHINE”, and its commitment that “AT GIS, EVERY DAY IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHINE.”
The management welcomed all returning and new students and called on parents and guardians to support the school in maintaining discipline and academic excellence.

Report on School Visit at Gurku Near IDP Camp
A visit was conducted today to the school located in Gurku, near the IDP camp. During the inspection, it was observed that all the necessary materials and requirements needed for the approval of the school’s registration have been adequately completed.
The only outstanding requirement is the payment for the registration process. It is important to note that the person in charge of the school has made a commendable effort in providing all the required information and ensuring that the school meets the necessary standards.
Overall, the school is well-prepared for registration pending the completion of the required payment

Update: The school buildings were completed in 2025 and the school will open in September 2026.
