Farmland in Nigeria

Information

Covington Community Church committed to buying 4 acres of land for the IDP camp for food production in 2021 and began sending money to assist in buying seeds for it..

Three guys representing Covington Community Church made a visit to Abuja, Nigeria in 2023 to get a better idea of the needs and the layout of the farmland. They met with the leaders of the EYN (Ekklesiyar Yan'uwa a Nigeria), which is the largest Christian group in Nigeria (With over one million members). They went to a few of the IDP (Internally Displaced People) camps in the region around Abuja and observed some of the needs of the people there. At that point they arranged a meeting with locals on natural natural and sustainable farming processes including natural composting, cyclical crop rotations, and an irrigation system in  well in an attempt to get up to three harvests a year.

By the end of  the 2023 mission trip Covington Community Church had assisted in funding a guard shack/pump house, water well and bought barbed wire to create a rudimentary fence

In 2024 progress sped up during and after a second trip during which a meeting with local agricultural experts was facilitated with discussion on natural composting, cyclical crop rotations and a powered water well and irrigation system. After the 2024 mission ended the well was drilled and completed that year as well as the first successful harvest..
