Covington Community Church:
Partnering with the EYN in Nigeria
For more than a decade, Covington Community Church, a Covenant Brethren Congregation in Covington, Washington, has cultivated a deep and compassionate partnership with the Ekklesiyar Yan'uwa a Nigeria (EYN)—the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria—supporting communities through rebuilding, education, health care, and faith based service. What began as a mission of friendship has grown into a long-term relationship grounded in prayer, trust, and shared ministry.

Building the church
Working closely with current and past presidents of the EYN, Covington Community
Church has provided essential resources, training, and encouragement to strengthen the church's capacity to serve throughout Nigeria. Together, they have helped construct a church, hospital, school, and farm, each serving as a foundation for community renewal and a living testimony of God's enduring faithfulness. Beyond infrastructure, the partnership has focused on meeting practical and spiritual needs, especially among those most affected by violence and displacement. Covington
Community Church has remained steadfast in supporting Christians who are victims of terrorism— among the most persecuted believers in the world—by working alongside EYN leaders to bring relief, restoration, and hope.
Through this collaboration, Covington Community Church has extended vital support to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Maiduguri, Gurku, and other regions of Nigeria, providing food aid, shelter materials, school supplies, and pastoral care to families who have lost everything. These efforts embody Christ's command to care for "the least of these" and demonstrate the unity of the global body of Christ in action.

The partnership has also included two mission trips to Nigeria, where Covington team members worshiped, taught, and served shoulder to shoulder with Nigerian brothers and sisters—experiencing firsthand their courage, resilience, and unwavering faith under persecution.
Most recently, Covington Community Church coordinated the shipment of over $2—3 million in hospital equipment and medical supplies to the EYN headquarters in Kwarhi, significantly expanding the EYN hospital's ability to deliver life-saving care. The next major project is underway: gathering educational materials, computers, and technology supplies to create computer labs and classrooms that empower EYN schools to prepare the next generation for leadership and service.

Join Us on the Mission
Through ongoing partnership, prayer, and practical love, Covington Community Church continues to stand with the EYN and the persecuted church in Nigeria. As this work grows, Covington invites the entire Covenant Brethren Church family to join in faithful prayer support—lifting up our Nigerian brothers and sisters, that the light of Christ would continue to shine brightly even in the darkest places.

This coming Sunday, November 2, is International Day of Prayer for Persecuted Christians. All CBC congregations are encouraged to pray for our brothers and sisters around the world who are enduring bitter persecution for their faith in Jesus. It is particularly severe in Nigeria but also in other nations such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, North Korea, China, and elsewhere. Christians are being tortured and killed, and Christian homes and meeting houses are being burned. Please pray for the faithful endurance of the saints and for us, as their brothers and sisters, not to neglect to pray for them.
